For the May meeting we have Paul Ransley coming to give his talk on the fine restoration of Fowler No. 1908 of 1873.
Fowler 1908 is one of the only early Fowler single cylinder ploughing engines in unrebuilt form. Many of these engines wre rebuilt with a number of modifications in the 1920’s, significanly altering their appearance.
Known as “The Mistress,” this engine has a long history and has recently returned to working order.
Originally delivered to Delivered to Harman E. Visger at Chiseldon, near Swindon, Wiltshire, on Tuesday, February 11, 1873.
After a 17-year restoration effort, it steamed for the first time in 92 years on August 13th 2022, and was featured at various steam rallies, including the Weald of Kent Ploughing Match and Banbury Steam Rally.
“The Mistress” worked alongside a similar engine, number 2299 (built 1874), for many years, with both surviving until at least 1944.
Join us at the Angel, Wollhampton Berks from 1930 on Monday 11th May.
