October club meeting

For the October club meeting, John Penfold will be joining us to give a talk on Penfolds of Arundel and Barnham. The talk will give the history of the firm and the use of steam in the business which was initially founded in 1833.

September Club Meeting

For the September club meeting we have “A Guide to Coach Painting and Vehicle Lining, Gerald Whittaker’s Way”

Gerald will be showing us how he was taught and the own methods he has developed.

The funeral of TVTEC member Jim Lawrence will take place at 12.00 noon at Guildford Crematorium on Thursday 8th August 2024, and afterwards at The Princess Royal Hotel Runfold.

July Models night

June Visit

For the June meeting the TVTEC traditionally has an external visit. This year we will be going to the late Derek Marder’s yard. Some of the resident engines will be off on their travels for the rally season, but there will be much to see in terms of restoration projects and other engines in steam.

See you at Marders Yard, Ox Drove, Picket Piece, Andover, SP11 6ND on Monday 10th June from 6pm.

April Meeting reminder

Don’t forget our April meeting on Monday 8th April. This promises to be a great evening with Michael and Robert Pumfrey talking about their family steam business.

“One Hundred Gold Sovereigns” tells the story of the gamble made by Emily Pumfrey to withdraw 100 gold sovereigns from her Co-Op savings account for the deposit needed to purchase a steam engine, drum and elevator. From this the firm of C. R. Pumfrey came into being and Michael will tell us their story.

Only Half a dozen copies of the book are left and they will be available on the night at £7 and it will be first come , first served basis.

TVTEC April Meeting

As decided at our March AGM the Thames Valley Traction Engine Club is investing in some excellent speakers and talks to improve the quality of our meetings.

We are pleased to announce for the April meeting we will be having Michael Pumphrey and his father Robert Pumphrey BEM coming to give a talk entitled “100 Gold Sovereigns” – Farming with Steam, Pumfreys of Duxford.

Pumfreys have owned and operated a number of engines in both commercial and and preservation times and still own  more Ruston Procter traction engine “SUCCESS” which they have owned since buying new.
