“One Hundred Gold Sovereigns” tells the story of the gamble made by Emily Pumfrey to withdraw 100 gold sovereigns from her Co-Op savings account for the deposit needed to purchase a steam engine, drum and elevator. From this the firm of C. R. Pumfrey came into being and Michael will tell us their story.

As decided at our March AGM the Thames Valley Traction Engine Club is investing in some excellent speakers and talks to improve the quality of our meetings.
We are pleased to announce for the April meeting we will be having Michael Pumphrey and his father Robert Pumphrey BEM coming to give a talk entitled “100 Gold Sovereigns” – Farming with Steam, Pumfreys of Duxford.
Pumfreys have owned and operated a number of engines in both commercial and and preservation times and still own more Ruston Procter traction engine “SUCCESS” which they have owned since buying new.

Our annual AGM will be held at 8.00pm on Monday 11th March at the Angel Inn Woolhampton. As part of the AGM the future of the Thames Valley Traction Engine Club will be discussed. A number of changes are being considered to ensure the club has an ongoing future. Your attendance and feedback will be greatly received. As usual we will be showing something interesting once the AGM is complete – this time from club member Any Smith.
Calling all modellers. Didcot Railway Centre are having a models weekend on 22/23 June. Models of any description are wanted / welcome, road or rail, or stationary. Please note road steam can only be up to 4″ scale. Anyone interested should email sarah.jermyn@didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk.

The TVTEC Christmas meeting will be held at the Beenham Club on today Monday 11th December from 19.45hrs – 23.00hrs.
Buffet food will be provided.
Please note the School playground is no longer available to hire for parking. We can park on the road, providing we do not cause any obstruction and we have been specifically asked not to park on the grass outside the school.
Due to many of the club members being at Derek Marder’s funeral on 13th November, the decision has been made to cancel the November meeting on the same day.
The next club meeting will be the December Christmas meeting on Monday 11th December at Beenham Village Hall. A reminder will be sent nearer the time.
